Bikepacking/Touring Repair Kit
Am I Just Unlucky?
Over the years, I’ve had a wide variety of frustrating mechanicals while on tour. A short list of ones I can remember off the top of my head:
- Punctures
- Miscellaneous shifting issues
- Broken/twisted chain
- Sheared off rack bolt
- Broken spokes
- Leaky mini pump (not fun)
- Bad o-ring in the tubeless valve core
- Panniers that came apart
…and my favourite of all: a stick going through my derailleur, taking out the derailleur, the derailleur hanger, and 4-5 spokes. I had to call for a lift home after that one.
So with that in mind, here’s everything I take now to either A) fix the issue, or B) bodge it long enough to get to a bike store. Posting this here in case anyone is looking to build up their own repair kit, but also as a future checklist for myself.

Tools
- Ratchet Rocket Lite DX+ (multitool and chain breaker)
- T30 Torx bit (you probably don’t need this)
- Extra tyre lever (having 3 is nice)
- Gerber mini knife
- Knipex Cobra pliers
- Chain link pliers
- Tubeless plug kit
- Cannondale Dirt mini pump
- CO₂ inflator
- Big needle
- Schrader to Presta adapter (So I can use a servo tyre pump in a pinch)
- Spoke wrench
- Pocket cassette lockring tool for cassette removal (Unior do a demo vid on how to use it. It’s a neat little tool)
Consumables
- Chain wax
- Sealant (my tyres are set up tubeless)
- Grease (bearing grease, but for all grease-related purposes on tour)
- Thread (for sewing up panniers, tyres, etc.)
- CO₂ cartridges (I usually carry two—handy if you need to break the tubeless bead)
- Selleys Power Grip (or whatever you have on hand)
- Electrical tape (in a pinch it’s decent tubeless rim tape as well)
- 2× pairs of workshop gloves
- Cable ties
- Safety pins
- Multi-purpose clips
Spares for Repairs
- 2× tyre boots (will get you out of a bind should you get a big gash in your tyre)
- Gear cable + a couple of end caps
- Brake pads
- Various M4 and M5 bolts
- 2× TPU tubes
- Glueless tube patches (also doubles as a mattress repair kit)
- Tubeless valve with remover tool
- Chainring bolts
- Cleat bolts
- Spoke nipples
- Fibre Fix emergency spokes
- 6x regular spokes
- Derailleur hangers (bike-specific and a generic, just in case)
